How to find the 'spine' of a rod blank
Tools needed:
- masking tape
- pencil

STEP 1
When rod blanks are made in a factory, they are made from cloth which is rolled around a mandrel The overlap of the cloth is thicker and is slightly stiffer. This is called the "spine" of a rod. -
STEP 2
Find the spine by bending the rod section and rolling it slowly, you will find a spot where the rod almost "jumps". This is the stiffer part or spine.
